This year’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, held between November 25 and December 10, we drew inspiration from the power of fairy tales.

As narratives passed down from generation to generation, fairy tales carry some of the strongest cultural messages, so we shaped our awareness efforts around the belief that “If we rewrite the story, everyone wins in the end.” As the first step of the campaign, we invited our employees to rethink the fairy tales of their childhood through the lens of today with a brief awareness survey. This survey encouraged us to question the subtle messages embedded in these stories, while the small challenge surprise at the end aimed to increase engagement. Throughout the campaign, we continued the conversation on Teams by discussing common clichés like princesses waiting to be rescued, villains commonly depicted as women, and the idea that all stories must end with a “happily ever after.” These interactions allowed us to collectively reflect on how traditional gender roles can be carried from fairy tales into real life.

One of the most impactful moments of the campaign was the seminar “Fairy Tales and Gender,” held in collaboration with SEBUKA Founder and Lawyer Aslı Karataş. Together, we explored the unseen layers of fairy tales, the stereotypes they reinforce, and the narratives that shape our perceptions. This created a meaningful space for awareness and reflection across our organization. Additionally, our “Messages Beyond the Story” series on Teams carried this awareness into our daily rhythm, reminding us through short but powerful messages that solidarity, empathy, and collective healing are far more real and transformative than any magical tale.

Alongside awareness activities, we also made our support mechanisms more visible to ensure all employees feel safe and supported. We reminded our teams about the availability of psychological support, the ethical reporting hotline, and the confidentiality principles guiding these processes. These reminders reinforced that no one is alone in the face of violence and that seeking help is always possible.

Another important step in this year’s campaign was updating our Domestic Violence Policy and the “Chemistry Between Us Is Equal” Booklet. These enhancements reaffirm that equality is not just a verbal commitment for us, but an integral, written, actionable, and sustainable part of our organizational culture. With all these efforts, Organik Kimya once again demonstrated its firm stance: placing equality at the heart of our culture, showing zero tolerance for any form of violence, and continuously strengthening our support systems.

This year, we spoke the language of fairy tales, because when stories change, the world changes too. At Organik Kimya, we are rewriting this story together, and we believe in a future where everyone wins in the end.
